Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
